Ukraine Crisis Appeal
Hundreds of thousands of people are being forced to flee their homes in Ukraine as a result of the conflict. Many are women and children who have left homes and loved ones behind and now, on top of this trauma, they face risks of trafficking and violence.
IJM teams and partners are working at the Ukrainian border right now to provide urgent support to refugees and to prevent trafficking. Please give now to protect more women and children at the border and beyond.

In the event that we raise more than is needed, any funds will be used to prevent trafficking and violence as part of IJM’s wider work to stop trafficking in Eastern Europe and around the world. As a cross-national agency, we are uniquely placed on the frontline to prevent at-risk women and children from trafficking.
What is IJM’s response?
With hundreds of people crossing the border every hour, there are opportunities for traffickers to exploit and abuse women and children in desperate situations. IJM Romania is on the ground working to prevent trafficking and exploitation by:
- Running awareness campaigns at the border and in shelters, including working with authorities to put flyers in passports
- Actively working to identify vulnerability and training partners and shelters in how to spot the signs of trafficking
- Partnering with local charities and agencies to coordinate safe transport from the border to local shelters and supporting refugees with safe passage on their onward journey, reducing the risks of people accepting offers of transport by exploiters
IJM is also helping local partners to provide vital support such as food supplies and sim cards, as well as training NGO’s and shelters in how to support people with complex trauma.
This work is being delivered by IJM’s European Anti-Trafficking Programme which has been working on cross-border trafficking in Romania and Eastern Europe for the last two years, making it uniquely well placed to provide support in this crisis and to help stop trafficking now and in the future.
