Three Young Children Rescued and German Citizen Arrested

PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – On October 8th, Dominican police spearheaded a rescue operation in the Puerto Plata province in the Dominican Republic. Local public justice officials proactively collaborated to rescue three young children and also arrested a 76-year-old German citizen.

The man was arrested after the police entered his home and found the three minors and evidence. He is currently being prosecuted for sexually exploiting the minors.

The survivors, two Haitian girls and a Dominican boy aged 10 to 12 years old, were immediately taken to a safe home run by the Dominican Child Welfare (CONANI) to provide immediate crisis care and to evaluate next steps.

IJM applauds the proactive, fast and coordinated response led by the Department of Human Trafficking, the Specialised Prosecutor’s Office against the Smuggling of Migrants and Human Trafficking, CONANI (Dominican Child Welfare Agency) and investigators, who continue working hard to bring rescue and protection to children.
